Italy’s gas grid operator Snam SRG is looking to invest in existing liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification and import facilities outside Italy as part of its expansion plans, a company executive said on Wednesday.

“What we’re looking at is if it makes sense to expand our regasification footprint into northwest Europe,” said Elio Ruggeri, Executive Director LNG, at the World Gas Conference.

The Italian company recently acquired a stake in Germany’s fuel operator Open Grid Europe.
