Syria Civil War News Live Updates: Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has been given asylum in Russia, which backed him for years. He has resigned as the President of Syria and is now in Moscow along with his wife and three children.

The rebels took over Damascus on Sunday and barged into the presidential palace. Western countries hailed Assad’s downfall and raised cautions about the new Islamist-led regime that is expected to replace him after the gruelling 13-year-old civil war.

The United States conducted airstrikes in central Syria to eliminate the ISIS camps. It said that it would not allow the terrorist organisation to take advantage of the evolving situation in Syria and reconstitute itself. Many European countries including the UK, France and Germany have suspended asylum bids from Syrians after the fall of the Assad regime.
