The National Day was opened by President Edgars Rinkēvičs, who emphasized the significant role of Latvia’s participation in an international event of this level in the development of economic diplomacy and strengthening the country’s image.
Latvia has a joint pavilion with Lithuania at EXPO 2025.
“Within the framework of EXPO, Latvia presents its innovative achievements that serve the environment and people, and opens the door to new cooperation opportunities. I would like to say a big thank you to all the creators of this great event, especially Japan and the city of Osaka, which has brilliantly organized this world-class exhibition,” said President Rinkēvičs.
“On the National Day, the diversity of Latvian culture was vividly demonstrated by a specially created multimedia performance “’ECHO / ATBALSS”, which for 40 minutes, through music, dance and impressive visual solutions, allowed us to experience the story of Latvia through the daily cycle and the seasons. A number of artists from Latvia and Japan participated in its creation, thus confirming the commonality in the cultures of the two countries and showing how harmoniously nature and technology, traditions and innovations can coexist,” said an official account of what followed.
“While working on this performance, I discovered a surprising amount of common ground in the traditions of Latvia and Japan, and I chose this thread as a motif for both the music and the choice of instruments. From classical and choral music to electronics and contemporary sound – together with my Latvian and Japanese colleagues, we created a vivid and emotional story that resonates incredibly sonorously between two cultures and confirms how geographically distant, but close in music, traditions and values we are,” said Reinis Sējāns, the musical director of the performance.
200,000 visitors came to the Baltic Pavillion during the National Day alone, according to organizers of the event.

One of the most important events of the business forum was the signing of a cooperation agreement between Latvian company FORTES and Japanese company Ichigo ECO Energy for the construction of five biomass cogeneration plants in Japan with a total capacity of 3.5 MW of electricity production and 7 MW of heat production. The cogeneration plants will use wood gasification technology developed in Latvia, and FORTES will provide the necessary training and support infrastructure for the maintenance and operation of the power plants for a period of 20 years.
