So Mentzen has challenged Trzaskowski and Nawrocki to compete for his supporters’ votes in the run-off by signing up to eight pledges.
If you’re a Mentzen supporter, which three of these are you keenest on?
And is there anything you feel he should’ve included, but is missing?
(For everyone else, I’m aware this is a cheap political stunt – but I’m just trying to understand the primary motivators for Mentzen’s support)

Taxes, keeping the złoty, and maintaining comfortable distance from EU federalists. I support sending troops to Ukraine and having Ukraine join NATO though. But there are no candidates who support Polish businesses so there’s no real other alternative.
Last two, but remember that the most important aren’t even there as he explained in his announcement.
However, it isn’t a cheap political stunt as you wrongly described it. Mentzen helped me to make an informed decision and I respect that a lot. If you call that cheap political stunt, you have no idea what you talk about.
He has no policies that are something new to pis/ko besides the firearms one and ukraine nato ascension lol I guess acting like a fool and running away in a goofy manner from people asking questions on the street is what got him 90% of his votes.
How is that a cheap political stunt? And what should he do in your opinion?
You can really see the difference in how politicians value people here. Mentzen is speaking for all his voters, assigning them specific positions, while people like Zandberg let everyone think for themselves.
Can someone explain to me why people don’t want Ukraine in NATO? Wouldn’t that increase our security?
Freedom of expression, polish troops away from Ukraine and probably cash
The first 3 and the last 2. All the others are take it or leave it.
Former konfa voter here. 2,3,6,7 and 8 seem to be completely reasonable and I agree with those. The rest are anti-Ukrainian and clearly not in the interest of the Polish state. People feeding on the anti-Ukrainian sentiments are dangerous since, despite the fact that I don’t like their foreign policy, Ukraine is the perfect buffer state for Poland and Ukrainians are the perfect assimiliable workforce.
– Less in-country authorities to EU ( I made that word up)
– Keeping polish złoty ( Historical reasons)
Not a Mentzen voter but all except for 1 and 6 are crucial for Poland
One point does make one wonder, what is his aim in resisting Ukraine in NATO. Is he stupid enough to want armed, war seasoned Ukrainian army to be ‘not aligned’ with western security? The guy is not real
All
1) not sending Polish troops to Ukraine
2) speech freedom
3) firearms
All of them.
Just one thought about the NATO thing. I don’t think it’s a point with much basis in reality. Noone can join NATO without closing all territorial disputes and getting out of conflicts first. So yes, ukraine should not join NATO… Now. Later? I am not sure, it’s a tough question for people wiser than me. Maybe it would cause russia to escalate again, harder. But won’t they do it anyway? Should anyone limit their decisions like this out of fear of an international bully that russia is?…
Anyway, all I need from this is our country out of any wars please. If that means ukraine has to join nato, so be it.
But does it?
3 i feel like the left want to put us in prison for expresing our views, i see posts about delegalisation of far rights. So much for democracy
1,2 we vote for Mentzen with our wallets tbh it is very important for us
then all foreign policy ones
Then firearms
Sounds reasonable but Trzaskowski would break 3, 7 & 8 when he is told to. Duda vetoed hate speech aka censorship but he would sign. And anything the EU wants he would not oppose too.
He should of added reduced to total ban on migration from islamic backgrounds and supporting migration from similar cultures or cultures that integrate well.
2 last ones and freedom of speech.
Proud and happy to be in EU but we should have right to say no to stupid stuff and we shouldn’t give them any control over our country.
Freedom of speech is obvious one. I should be able to express myself openly.
Taxes always nice to be sure they would not raise them.
Don’t care much about firearms..but should be more liberal.
Nato and Ukraine is a very dangerous combination and nobody knows what would it lead us into in the future, we have some unfinished historical business with Ukraine which needs to be settled before we can support them with joining nato, also Pollish people are very proud and freedom oriented ao we would be first to join the war if UA is in nato also we are the closest neighbour… and nobody wants a war that you have to take a part in just across your borders.
Why did you assumed, that Mentzen pledges (or generally, anyone candidate pledges) were significant for choices during election?
I don’t think this is a “cheap political stunt”. Whatever they sign up for, and whether they go through with their promises or not, it’s a win for Mentzen as he can leverage the outcome in his parliamentary campaign. It’s lowkey impressive.
Do we really need easy access to firearms? USA has it, and it’s only problems and deaths with no end.
Not Menten supporter, but aside from 6th point that is stupid, and 1st that I have no enought expertise or knowleage to feel qualified to speak of, I agree with all of them
This list is so infantile that nobody can answer with yes or no. Pretty much each point can be accepted or rejected based on how exactly it would be implemented.
For example, just a rough description without going into details:
Taxes: general increase in taxes like VAT or income tax, hell no! Increase in some taxes like Tax on multiple apartments or taxes on large multinational corporations, hell yea.
Weapons: USA like gun law, hell freaking no. Unrestricted access to guns provided that they have to be stored offsite in a gun range and used there, hell yes. If it’s kept secure in a gun range then everyone should be allowed to buy themselves even an Abrams tank.
Troops in Ukraine: well defeating Russia is of utmost importance to the future of Poland and our security. If we can do that with Ukrainian hands then great but who the hell can say if in a year or two it won’t be necessary that polish army would have to protect Poland already on Ukrainian soil. Things change. Nobody knows what will happen.
This is why I would never vote for Mentzen, his brain is as simplistic as 12 year old boy. He lacks abstract thinking and wide outlook on different matters.
All of them.
Firearms!!
Wow all these are terrible. Who wrote this a 12 year old ?
First off – im not Mentzen supporter, but agree with most of these statements.
For me most important is protecting cash and rejecting powers to UE. Despite new trends like paying by phone/watch etc. i prefer cash over them, because this is one of few truly free and indepentent payment methods. Nowadays digital surveliance is common thing, corporations and goverments knows about us more than ever before. Theoretically there are some rights that protect citizen’s data, but i think if something is technically possible, politicans could do this – because they proved numerous times that rights doesn’t really apply to them. So situation where you could block someone’s account because of certain political beliefs or behaviours is technically possible.
As for UE powers – im not against European Union, but some of the ideas they try to implement directly affect our personal lives. Who remembers ACTA, TERREG, art. 13/17, Chat control etc.? They are always “against terrorism” “against piracy” “for children”, but could be easily used for infiltrating citizen’s private messages or blocking “controversial” sites. And we have whole ULEZ/LEZ/SCT (whatever) thing, that is just plain stupid – sell your good condition, fully servicable car because its “too old” and buy new, expensive, bigger, much more complicated car because “clean air”. Im not even talking about very old diesel cars that shouldn’t drive on roads, but fairly modern cars that doesn’t pollute that much. So, if UE gains much more deciding power and we would be obligated to do anything they want to – other stupid ideas would have to be implementated.
For Ukraine, i 100% agree for supporting them by offering vehicles, equipment, even firearms, but not our troops. They’re not in NATO, so we have no obligation to do this. I don’t think they would be even accepted in NATO in next few years anyway, but im not against it.
It is the most important to vote again the government. I don’t really care about those pledges. My main motivation for voting Mentzen was because he had the biggest chance of defeating Trzaskowski in 2nd turn lol
I kinda agree with 2
I agreee with 6 (I don’t care about guns that much. I don’t want liberalisation, just to keep the status quo, e.g. don’t restrict black powder firearms. Tbh I care much more about marijuana legalisation)
I strongly agree with 3, 7, 8
I strongly disagree with 4 and 5
I kinda kinda disagree with 1
7>8>3>4>1>2
the rest is optional
To reject Ukraine
Right now to not send polish soldiers to Ukraine
The strongest I feel about 1 and 6 (they are almost equal and I cant decide which one I feel the strongest, maybe about taxes because they are what I pay daily, or guns because we are the most disarmed nation with a history of not being able to protect ourselfs from external enemies)
7 and 8 might be hard to do, but it would be nice
4 maybe as UN peace forces for limited time
5 I don’t care
3, that’s what a president is supposed to do, be a guardian of the constitution
About 2 I feel indifferent, although accepting euro would be invalidation of 8th
There are 2 or 3 that are not a made up scenario which he got mad (like the restrictions on freedom of expression) or straight up impossible (like the Ukraine two).
Opposing any law increasing taxes would block cadastre tax, that is floating around and would be a step towards fixing the housing market (and it is one of the major issues that should be talked a lot, but isn’t even a mid point). While I accept the overall notion, this one tax is such a huge issue that signing under that point is – for me – impossible under its current wording.
Protecting cash and currency is on a verge of being a made up scenario. Plans of introducing the Euro are in limbo for years and it doesn’t seem to me it could change in close future. And in which way the cash is in danger? I can’t imagine any country going fully digital with money, rejecting bills and coins altogether. The cash and electronic systems are coexisting and they will be coexisting for decades
Opposing laws limiting access to firearms is relevant to quite a small group of people. It’s really tiring to hear those all in all minor issues, when education, pensions, health care or aforementioned housing market are in such a bad shape. Those issues touch either everyone, or the youngest groups of people which have so much harder situation than their parents who needed to do less to have a better their own place.
I would comment but I don’t know how to get around the sub reddits soft censorship due to the election season.
Posting this now to see if it goes through.
As a parent I think the first 3 points are the most important to me.
Due to the fact that I actually serve in the Polish army 4 and 5 are also very important.
We can get around a bad economy in the future, but my kids will suffer most if I’m forced to go there to do whatever.
Not Mentzen voter but here is my random opinion.
1. Sounds good but definitely not sth that is possible to obide by anyone, even Mentzen himself (as in veto every tax rising law)
2. Actually good, should be no brainer to accept this one
3. Really good too, can be interpreted in any way but i dont see negatives.
4. Slightly controversial, but considering current political situation also reasonable, we shouldnt act as pacekeepers especially since America is so unreliable these days. Add to that rather poor relations between Ukrainian and Polish government and it is honestly fair deal.
5. Actually bad, definitely should be rejected since it is not only bad for pr but also really good for Russia. It should be easy to create reasonable counterargument. (of course im talking about ukraine in nato once war is over, then if they get attacked again poland should send the army)
6. Lets be honest this is free space guns are already hard to get and gun violence is super rare.
7. Up to interpretation i dont really care, but i dont like current eu policies being forced on us (for example combustion car ban in 2035 should never been introduced)
8. Depends, it shouldnt be “any”.
Overall some demands are just bad, some are tricky but can be obided partially and some are pretty good
oh poland is FUCKED fucked
1st, 4th, 7th, 8th,
