“gardaí were also aware of the defendant purchasing cannabis seeds online.”
Since when is this a thing in this country?
Lads 1 person telling me it’s not illegal to buy seeds is enough. Message received
Glad the judge showed some compassion here. Total waste of time and tax payer money dragging this person through the courts. Home cultivation for personal use should be legal or at least decriminalised as it already is in many EU countries.
Had an experience nearly 10 years ago where my housemate was growing his own plant for a chronic pain condition that he had. He had broken up with his girlfriend the week before and we got a knock on the door from 2 non-uniformed Gardai. There were 3 more in the back yard. They had a warrant for a growing operation in the property and we were all frisked down while they went through the house.
They were expecting a big bust and seemed confused that it was just a singular plant for personal use. They just confiscated the plant. My housemate got a good solicitor and all charges were eventually dropped. We always suspected that it was the ex-girlfriend that reported it but it was never confirmed.
Self-medicating for chronic pain is a dangerous place to be. It should not be encouraged or accepted. I say this as a sufferer of intractable chronic pain that is so bad it has been the subject of research papers.
There are many legal avenues to go down in seeking a treatment for chronic pain while working with your GP and a pain consultant. New treatments are coming out all the time with huge advances being made lately in non-drug treatments.
Self-medicating isolates you from all of that and with no medical oversight your pain management strategy won’t evolve to meet your changing needs as you age.
I’m sorry that this man is suffering chronic pain but starting a grow house was not the right path forward and it makes me question whether chronic pain is just being used as an excuse.
🤨 bit of a large operation for just one persons pain…
Glad they’re working on the real criminals
>Found during the search was a cannabis grow-house and 39 cannabis plants at various stages of maturity

The pain must have been pretty serious.
