BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. — Paul Trinci, the Malta man arrested in February for firing a shotgun twice at the Saratoga Springs Police Department building as well as damaging two vehicles — one of which was a marked police vehicle outside the station — agreed to a plea deal in Saratoga County Court on Wednesday.
Trinci pleaded guilty to a single count of reckless endangerment in the first degree, a class D felony, and a single count of criminal mischief in the second degree, a class D felony. With this plea, Trinci could serve between two-and-a-third to seven years for the reckless endangerment charge in state prison, followed by a consecutive term of one-and-a-third to four years for the criminal mischief charge, as well as will have to pay any restitution that victim’s insurance will not cover.
Trinci will be sentenced in county court at 10 a.m. on July 9.
Originally, Trinci was facing two dockets that contained a total of 24 charges — made up of three non-qualifying offenses and 21 charges of which included three C-level felonies, with the top count being attempted assault in the first degree.
The other charges included second-degree criminal possession of a weapon (Class C felony), second-degree criminal use of a firearm (Class C felony), first-degree reckless endangerment (Class D felony), two counts of second-degree criminal mischief (Class D felonies), second-degree reckless endangerment (Class A misdemeanor), fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon (Class A misdemeanor), unlawful fleeing a Police Officer (Class A misdemeanor), misdemeanor driving while intoxicated per se, .08% or higher, misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, misdemeanor reckless driving, as well as numerous other traffic infractions.
