The Republic of Moldova joins the European Cyber Security Pool. The agreement, signed in Brussels, gives Moldova access to specialized rapid intervention teams in case of cyber-attacks, strengthening the national capacity to respond and protect digital infrastructure, IPN reports.
The document was signed by Deputy Prime Minister Doina Nistor, Minister of Economic Development and Digitization, and Roberto Viola, Director-General for Communication Networks, Content and Technology at the European Commission.
“With this agreement, we become an active part of the European Digital Security Network, which is a concrete step towards our integration into the EU’s digital infrastructure and a clear proof of our commitment to protect institutions, citizens and democracy”, Doina Nistor said, quoted in a press release of the MDED.
During her visit to Brussels, the Deputy Prime Minister had meetings with several European Commissioners who gave assurances of the EU’s full support for the Moldovan economy. In the discussion with Maroš Šefčovič, European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, and Sabine Weyand, Director General for Trade and Economic Security at the European Commission, the necessary steps to bring the Moldovan economy closer to European regulations and standards were analyzed. They also discussed Moldova’s need to diversify its exports to be more competitive and, most importantly, higher value-added.
Another meeting was with Christophe Hansen, European Commissioner for Agriculture and Mihail Dumitru, Deputy Director General for Agriculture and Rural Development discussed the results of the liberalization of access for seven agricultural products from the Republic of Moldova. For example, exports of apples increased from 6.8 million lei in 2021 to 273 million lei in 2024, and of grapes – from 216 million to 768 million lei in the same timeframe.
With Andrius Kubilius, European Commissioner for Defense and Timo Pesonen, Director General for Defense Industry at the European Commission, Deputy Prime Minister Doina Nistor spoke about Moldova’s integration into the European defense value chain, an important opportunity to strengthen industry and technology. According to MDED, in the context of changes in European security, Moldova can contribute to European defense through expertise in areas such as electronics, cyber security, advanced engineering and production of equipment such as sensors, communications, software and drones.
