Eurovision 2025 celebrates record-breaking linguistic diversity • FRANCE 24 English

This year’s Eurovision Song Contest sets a new record for linguistic diversity, with artists performing in 20 different languages — the highest number since the 1999 rule change that lifted the requirement for songs to be in a national language, leading to the dominance of English. FRANCE 24’s Dave Keating has more from Brussels.

  1. Songs from Germany after the rule change 1999 in German Language was from the years 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2007

  2. Käärijä is the reason for this change in my opinion. Cha Cha Cha is effectively the reverse Waterloo of inspiring countries to sing in their native language.
Italy always sing in Italian and do well, so I don't think Maneskin's win did much here tbh
