Hello everyone. I live in Baden-Württemberg. I've been using this route to commute to work for more than a year now. Today, I was stopped by a guy who said that I'm not allowed to drive on this road with my e-scooter. I looked at him and saw that he had a sweater on with a logo on it saying something along the lines of BW Landkreis or Landwirtschaft, something like that, I can't remember completely. I told him that I see the logo so I trust him, I didn't ask for credentials. He said that technically my e-scooter has a motor so it's classified as a motorcycle, so it's not allowed. He said he's not gonna give me a fine this time, but he doesn't want to see me here again. Soo, is he right?

  1. No, technically your e-Scooter is a bicycle. At least if it’s a „normal“ street-legal one.

So yes, it should be allowed.

  2. The sign indicates that motorised vehicles (2 or 4-wheeled) are not allowed to use the road unless they are forestry or agricultural vehicles. Ergo: he is right.

  3. “Verkehrszeichen 260” prohibits also e-scooters, as they are classified as “Elektrokleinstfahrzeug”.

I am by no means a lawyer and there are still some weird caveats regarding those scooters (as in they are required to use bike path, but can’t enter pedestrian zones where bikes are allowed and so on), but it seems like the guy is correct.
