AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – On Wednesday, businesses and anyone interested in the future of parking in downtown Augusta can talk with the city and hear their plans.
That meeting starts at 5 p.m.
Businesses started a petition raising their concerns about the parking plan. They say they worry it will decrease the number of spots available.

That petition now has almost 1,600 signatures.
Their concern is that if the new plan goes into effect, customers will not be able to find a place to park.
One woman we spoke to says she’s worried about losing spaces.

“I don’t know that it would enhance business, but as a disabled person, I think it would hurt the area because not everybody is able to walk distances for parking to visit the restaurants and businesses that are downtown,” Sarah Wertz, community member.
We also reached out to city leaders.
“Revised presentation will address some of the misconceptions about how and why this configuration was chosen. It will also address any questions about the parking and the bike lanes,” said John Ussery, assistant director, Traffic Engineering Division.

“The city of Augusta is committed to supporting our downtown business owners and ensuring that there is adequate parking. We are also committed to transforming downtown into a beautiful new destination for dining, retail and entertainment,” said Mayor Johnson.
Many businesses plan on expressing their concerns Wednesday night, hoping some revisions will be made.
