Actually not a bad thing that this is going to make international news. I think with the current political climate, it might gain some more traction.
>The Sinn Féin law aims to give the Minister for Finance the power to stop the Irish Central Bank from facilitating the sale of Israeli war bonds across the EU.
>**To be sold in the EU, bonds from non-EU countries must have their bond prospectus, which is a legal document setting out details of the bond, approved by the Central Bank of a country that is in the EU.**
>**Before Brexit, the UK carried out this work for Israel. After they left the EU, Israel chose Ireland to be its ‘home country’ for this purpose, meaning the Irish Central Bank is seen as responsible for approving its bond prospectus.**
>Sinn Féin says Israel has raised roughly €12bn globally through the sale of bonds since Ireland became the ‘home country’ and since the beginning of the war in Gaza.
Well, that’s an appalling revelation.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out in media across the world
About time
I’d like another step forward and just halt trade. Full stop. Regardless of economic kickback. Putting up with butchery because $$$ are waved in our faces is not worth it.
Only after a year and a half of genocide and 80 years of occupation and colonialism.
How will it be determined that the goods are from occupied land? Surely it’s all just labelled “Israel”.
They dithered away on this until it got to the point where it was no longer controversial at all (The UK have done it by now ffs).
They had a chance to do this earlier, when it would have been a statement, but they they wimped out.
Great. Should’ve done this ages ago. Now we need hard sanctions on Israel itself.
Oh no, how will I live without my… umm…
>Breaking | Two Irish diplomats among delegation fired at by Israeli Army in the West Bank
Can’t wait to see that cunt from Gript and David Quinn bend over backwards to defend this
The Bank of Ireland should stop facilitating the sale of Israeli Bonds too.
Anyone know how this will affect tech companies in Israel rolling up into Ireland?
Great 👍🙌🙌 and about time
Follow the money, Ireland has blood on its hands. Token support is meaningless when children are being murdered.
