Why the All-American Rejects started playing free house party shows: ‘These giant artists — I’m not going to say her name — aren’t really selling out their shows anymore, and they pay for these arenas to make it look like they did’

He’s talking about Katy Perry
Well now that I know their dirty little secret I can move along.
He says his manager’s on board with this, don’t know how he’s happy with getting a few points off a $5 cover tho …
Her name rhymes with beyond said.
You want to know what really started this? When we were young music festival.
The first year they had it the wind cancelled it. So 150k displaced Emo’s were super sad in Vegas that day. Bands scrambled to book shows all over the city to make the fans happy.
I shit you not that day was like nick and Nora’s infinite playlist where they drive all over New York to see different bands. Only it was Vegas.
Hawthorne heights had the first pop up show in the Strat casino at like noon. 20-30k Emo’s rushing the casino making Vegas police come in and shut the casino down.
We really wanted to see the sense fail/ Thursday and a few other bands play at silver dollar at plaza. It was right across from our hotel at golden gate casino but by 3PM the line was 5k deep and I had been in the silver dollar before. It’s 500 person venue tops.
All America rejects was one of the many bands that did a pop up show. Most the bands for massive venues like palms. But they picked a BBQ joint in the art district. It was another venue that could only hold about 300 people. The show was amazing.
The venue then had thousands of fans who couldn’t get in standing outside so all American rejects basically was stuck in there and hung out to take pics and tell everyone how sorry they where for the concert being cancelled.
Also while I sat in that bar listening to all American rejects I realized the BBQ joint took over an old bar rescue location.
First small pop up show I saw them do was in Vegas after when we were young got cancelled.
Pay to play. Some clubs were playing that game 20yrs ago. This is just on a mega sized version of
Ain’t no one selling out rn with ticket prices
Controversial opinion:
This statement reeks of bitterness from a rock band that’s past their prime and slowly fading into obscurity. I mean hell, they haven’t released a full album in over a decade.
Maybe they’re playing free house party shows because people aren’t buying their tickets anymore. Maybe they see pop stars filling arenas and this makes them jealous.
Food for thought.
Is it possible that the younger generations aren’t that human to human social with events, music or otherwise, as say they were even 10 or 20 years ago?
Has technology made leaving your house a last resort?
