Politicians grab for themselfs tjinking they are invincible. People lose trust and vote him a despot. This is how good times create weak man and in turn create hard times.
You know that scene in catastrophe movies where the main character sees huge flocks of birds that fly away from an incoming disaster, like a tidal wave or an earthquake or something?
As a French this is exactly how I feel right now. We’re all holding our breath for the results and we hear the birds cry.
I vote every election, but the feeling that nothing will ever change and that the powerful will always win is quite sad. Particularly when you realise how easy it os for the corporations to control what people think through the press. Me included. True democracy seems like a pipe dream.
What does it say about Macron that even the threat of Le Pen presidency isn’t enough to get people to turn out and vote? He’s done an incredible job of co-opting the extreme right platform that now nobody thinks there’s enough of a difference between the two and therefore no reason to vote. The lesser evil is no longer seen as lesser. Bravo Macron!
I mean with the war, it really doesn’t feel like there’s a presidential election coming up tmw
Dont worry about it. France is too misogynistic to elect a women.
It will go into a 2nd round and then Macron will win easily when all the supports of other candidates will vote against the women.

This is bad. Low turnout usually favors the populists.
In a way, the lockdowns said to people, ‘you have no control over your life’. This will cause havoc at the polls across Europe.
Historically low turnouts historically favors wannabe tyrants.
