  1. Former Putin Adviser Accidentally Reveals Scale of Russian Losses in Ukraine During Interview

A former adviser to Russian President Vladimir Putin accidentally let slip during an interview with the Saudi television channel Al Arabiya how many Russian soldiers have already died in Ukraine. Russia normally does not communicate such information.

Sergei Markov is no minor figure. For years, he was a close adviser and loyal supporter of President Putin. He is currently a political scientist at the State Institute for International Relations in Moscow, an institution run by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The last time Russia officially communicated the number of fallen soldiers in Ukraine was on September 21, 2022. At that time, it was reported that 5,937 Russian soldiers had died in the war. Later, the loss of another 162 people was confirmed. And that was it.

However, Markov has now let it slip that the number of Russian deaths is much higher. When asked whether Putin is genuinely interested in peace, he answered affirmatively:
“Yes, Vladimir Putin is very interested in peace, because this war has already cost Russia several hundreds of thousands of lives.”

If what Markov says is true, the death toll on the Russian side would be even higher than Ukrainian and Western estimates.

According to the most recent count by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, the number of Russian casualties (dead plus wounded) stands at 977,650. This figure was released this morning.

  2. We Don’t Care.

Russia can end this quickly. Just go home. Where they belong.

  3. I hate Sergei Markov. I’ve listened to too many interviews of him aggressively argue back vomiting out warped and unfounded claims about reality of the war. You could tell him the sky was blue and he’d insist that it was a western conspiracy and that the sky has always been green, and you were being a xenophobic russophobic racist for suggesting otherwise.

  4. Quick, delete the article before empso and gracefulslick read this! 😂

  5. Inb4 all the Russian simps on this sub board their copewagons to fly up Putin’s balloon knot again.

  6. Let me guess, five drunks, three rapists, six donkeys and a camel?

  7. What started off titled a “Special Military Operation” and designed as a military parade to follow a coup designed by Putin’s “intelligence” services as ended with the destruction of the Kremlin’s pre-war military and the two that followed.

All Putin’s doing now is hanging on by his fingernails hoping his investments in covert influence campaigns can give him an out where his military can’t.

  8. “Several hundreds of thousands”

My guess is a right around 200,000. I’m thinking from the psychology of being in an interview. With the cameras and trying to come up with an answer that would be the word to use.

I don’t speak Russian so idk how they use general terms but 150,000 would not be several hundred thousand.

  9. And yet, it’s still apparently not enough. If Russia wants to wipe out a generation of their young men, I say let them. What did Sun Tzu say? Never interrupt your enemy when they’re in the middle of making a mistake?

*According to an analysis by the British public broadcaster BBC, at least 100,000 Russian soldiers were killed in Ukraine. According to military experts at the BBC, that number could be even higher and can reach 240,000 Russians.*

*The US intelligence services report much higher losses on the Russian side. Last October, Russia has lost more than 600,000 troops, according to the CIA.*

So at minimum it’s 200,000 dead.
