17 other countries now join Ireland in demanding to see breakdown of Eurovision voting numbers. The EBU is facing accusations of corruption and vote manipulation.

  1. It’s obvious the votes were astroturfed to hell by a certain country. They were running ads on youtube in dozens of languages to vote only for their song, iirc official accounts encouraged people to use esims to vote several times (saw it myself on twitter, some guy voted with 5 esims for 100 total votes), plus not to mention that song was nowhere near good enough to receive 297 points from the public vote

  2. I heard a rumour the only 3 countries that didn’t encounter unusual Israel vote activity were ones where you need to show ID to buy a SIM card, but I have no idea how true that is. Wouldn’t surprise me a single bit though.

  7. As a Dutchman: Calling the Netherlands Holland is like calling Ireland Leinster

  8. The only viable solution for that, is to exclude Israel from the competition, they do not even belong to Europe. Same for Australia and other Asian countries. Above countries should boycott if they won’t comply.

    If they want, let them make their own global competition.
    It is all about money afterall… Televoting makes them millions…

To be clear, I don’t support Israel and agree there’s reasons to investigate the voting, but if people are boycotting Eurovision because of Israel’s participation then it would make sense for the votes to show a pro-Israel bias because people who would vote for other countries opted-out of the voting through the boycott

    Let’s say Ireland has an audience of 10 people who might watch and vote in the Eurovision normally, so the vote is split 10 ways and 1 votes for Israel in scenario A. Now let’s say 4 people of those people boycotted this year and no one extra votes for Israel: the vote is split 6 ways with 1 vote for Israel in scenario B.

    Because the pool of votes is smaller in scenario B than scenario A, the 1 Israel vote goes from being 10% of all votes to about 17% of all votes. People who would vote for Israel aren’t going to be part of the voting population opting out by boycotting, and so it makes sense for the vote to lean more positively towards Israel.

    Obviously it’s suspicious how wide the support was and I’m 100% on board with investigating it, I was just making a point that we can’t be too surprised that an audience that isn’t bothered by genocide would vote for Israel
