A severe weather warning has been issued for the NSW South Coast, with areas of heavy rainfall expected along a 300-kilometre stretch of coast between Nowra and Eden.

“Six-hourly rainfall totals of 60 to 120mm are possible,” the Bureau of Meteorology said.

Locations that might be affected include Nowra, Batemans Bay, Eden, Braidwood, Bega and Moruya Heads.

Bursts of extreme rainfall were recorded overnight at several points around the Illawarra and Shoalhaven regions.

Macquarie Pass in the Shellharbour district received 108mm in the three hours to 9.55am, meaning the area had received almost 25 centimetres of rain in the past 24 hours.

A strong wind warning was also issued for marine areas from the Hunter down to Eden on the border with Victoria.
