This must be part of the states rights movement that Republicans are always clamoring about, right? Right?!
This is the key point:
“If they invoke this nuclear option now, they should expect that a future Democratic government will have to revisit decades worth of paltry corporate settlements, deferred prosecution agreements, and tax rulings that were overly favorable to multinationals and ultra-wealthy individuals,” said Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, an Oregon Democrat, in a statement.
The GOP is setting themselves up for a world of hurt in the interpretation of rules.
If Americans were as concerned about about climate change as much as they claimed to be, we wouldn’t need to worry about vehicle emissions standards. We would be lining up to buy EVs as quickly as possible. Instead, what do you see? In 2023 when Biden was still president, EVs made up 10% of all new vehicles sales.

In 2024, when Biden was still president, EVs increased to 10%.

Wait a minute, that’s not an increase. It’s the exact same number as 2023, with the same proportions as well (8% full EV, 2% hybrid).
We’re the richest country in the world, and even poor countries have adoption rates higher than ours. Brazil’s EV sales, as just one example, increased by 89% in 2024.
What are Americans buying? Well, aside from the obvious (90% ICE vehicles), we’re still determined to buy the biggest, most oil-hungry vehicles possible — SUVs, pickups, and vans, which represented 81% of new vehicle sales through the end of October 2024 (which happens to be right before the election).

And in true American fashion, as we complained about how poor we were, we were passing up more economical and less oil-hungry options for the ones that are more expensive to purchase and operate on a day-to-day basis, and then we complained about the price we had to pay for our excess.
This is what $1B bribes from big oil gets you.
Republikkkans love states rights until its states doing things they don’t like
States are the laboratory of democracy.
Time for California and other states to step up and raise gas taxes to $3 or $4 a gallon. Do it gradually over 10 years – like .25 cents/year so people can plan/prepare their purchases. Use the extra tax money to subsidize ev purchases for low income and install chargers in apartments and streets in low income areas.
And who introduced that bill in the House? Representative Kiley from Northern California.

The Central Valley in California gets quite bad pollution, depending on the air pressure and winds. Car exhaust is a big part of that.
I’ve asked him what he thinks about project 2025. Three times. Radio silence.
Now that they realized that there no way the will lose power, they can use the nuclear option on everything.
like, who’s gonna stop them. None of y’all are moving to Nebraska.
Ok Schumer, so what are you going to do about it? Write a strong letter?
Anything to drive oil sales up, I guess?
