Then I seen a local news segment where the reporter doing a story about businesses on the border got held for an hour by US customs and fingerprinted like a criminal before being let go. Fuck all of that.

  15. Reading between the lines what the officers probably saw was: the tattoos, a shotgun internet marriage, her Instagram deleted 3 days before her trip. A Greek last name but judging from the pictures what ICE types might see as racially ambiguous appearance, and her claims of being a police officer meaning potential contact with drug cartels. Her anxiety and PTSD leading her to start bawling on the spot the moment she was yelled at probably made them suspicious about her whole story as well.

    Nonetheless, she completely cooperated, they found nothing, and she had a valid marriage certificate. They threw her in handcuffs, essentially assaulted her then threw her in jail with no phone call – all while saying she wasn’t even under arrest. They didn’t follow anything close to a valid legal procedure.

    I understand this woman’s situation, she had good reason to think she’d be the last person to end up treated like this. But generally speaking it staggers me that anyone’s willing to risk going there at all right now. There is no category of “I’ll be fine” you can be in, it’s entirely based on the mood of immigration sociopaths on power trips who face no consequences for anything they feel like doing to you in a given moment.

  22. A lot of attractive women are getting grabbed and strip searched. It is an incel thing of which CBP is full of in its ranks. There are also allegations of sexual abuse by CBP by Canadian women in the past.

    We also have reports about we getting hassled if we try to cross the border into Canada. Something I have done hundreds of times in the past. But now CBP are actively harassing traffic in the personal lanes at the border crossings, something I have not witnessed in my past crossings. Usually if you see them they are in the commercial lanes conducting inspections.

    I think Republicans are determined to create a very isolated insular country which has no flow of traffic either way, as a control measure. Many of the ardent Republicans believe that America can be an island that exists with no association with the outside world, although they are absolutely fine with authoritarian relationships like Saudi Arabia and Russia.

    Its sickening.

  37. The concern immigration had was that she was moving in with her husband illegally. There is a very specific process to get your spouse a green card and have them move to the US with you and another process to get a visa for them to live with you while waiting for their green card. The excess baggage and spouse who’s a US citizen set off their little alarm bells along with the answers she gave.

    Wife and I had multiple issues over the years going into the US when she was a green card holder with permission to be outside the US for more than a year (a literal document from USCIS called a travel permit) because they didn’t believe we’d maintained a residence in the US and once, believe it or not, because the officer had never seen or heard of a travel permit and had to get a supervisor over who looked at it looked at us and said it’s fine let them through.

    My all time favorite though was getting the fingerprint notification for my wife’s green card application, complete with the warning that missing the appointment would be viewed as abandoning her application, mailed on a Saturday. The appointment was for Monday morning. The mail delivery was Monday afternoon. I had to get our senator involved.

    My level of anger over this is off the charts, not only has Trump fucked the country in every way he has emboldened law enforcement to act the way they have always wanted to.   47. Just today I looked up how to get from Australia to Barbados without going through the states. I’ll fully go the opposite direction through Hong Kong and Heathrow to avoid the states from now on.
