Spectacular photographs from the most valuable protected areas of the Republic of Moldova can be admired outdoors at the National Museum of History. The exhibition “Focus on Nature: Objectively Protected Areas” highlights the beauty and fragility of ecosystems in Orhei National Park, Lower Dniester National Park and Codrii Nature Reserve through a selection of 24 images captured in all four seasons, IPN reports.

The event was inaugurated on May 22, symbolically marking the International Day for Biological Diversity. The exhibition remains open to the public until June 22, a period that includes a number of days dedicated to environmental protection, such as the European Day of Parks, the Dniester Day or the Environment Day.

The project is supported by the Austrian Development Agency, in cooperation with the organizations EcoContact and Biotica, and aims to draw attention to the importance of biodiversity conservation and community involvement in the protection of natural areas.

Present at the opening, Sandra Horina, head of the office of the Austrian Development Agency, highlighted the results of a sustainable partnership started in 2012, stressing that this joint effort has also contributed to the creation of the “Lower Dniester” National Park. European official Franciska Kirkegaard Flugt noted the relevance of the exhibition in the context of the joint efforts made by the authorities and civil society to protect nature.

Government representatives welcomed the initiative. Secretary of state of the Ministry of Environment Aliona Rusnac spoke about the protected areas as true landmarks of national identity and sustainable development. For his part, Vladimir Vornic, secretary of state of the Ministry of Culture, underlined the educational role of visual culture and the contribution of photographic art to raising public awareness.

The organizers aim to strengthen public support for the protection of ecosystems and encourage an active dialogue between nature and society. The opening was completed by a musical recital held by the violinist ensemble of “Eugen Doga” music school, offering an artistic moment with the message of the exhibition: nature is worth looking at, understanding and preserving.
