Hi dear Austrians,
I will be traveling to Wien in May. I’m trying to understand current rules regarding COVID but I have trouble with the interpretation of what I have read here: [https://www.austria.info/en/service-and-facts/coronavirus-information](https://www.austria.info/en/service-and-facts/coronavirus-information).
My status is as follows:
Recovery from COVID on 24.08.2021.
Vaccinated with J&J (one dose) on 10.01.2022.
I don’t have any boosters. In my country I am considered “Fully vaccinated” (I guess that would be equivalent to 2G ) and I am wondering if it’s the same in Austria. The sentence from the site provided states:
* When recovered, the first jab is valid for 180 days (210 days for under 18 year olds)
Valid for what? to be considered as 2G?
Any help would be much appreciated. 🙂

yup, should be enough. though rules change quite frequently here, for now it’s enough, i’d check again before your trip though
Just looked at the Website of the Austrian Government, if (IF!) I got it right it seems that when you have Johnson you must wait 22 Days, and after that your certificate is good for 270 days. But let’s wait for the other Comments here. (Even with fluid German it’s not easy to understand the gov. Website haha)
Edit: I mean 22 days after the shot. So in your case that should work
And no matter your status, please have a valid PCR Result with you, just to be on the safe side.
For entering Austria [this](https://www.ris.bka.gv.at/GeltendeFassung.wxe?Abfrage=Bundesnormen&Gesetzesnummer=20011574) is the current law.
For visiting stores/restaurants/events within Austria [this](https://www.ris.bka.gv.at/GeltendeFassung.wxe?Abfrage=Bundesnormen&Gesetzesnummer=20011838) law applies.
The special laws for Vienna can be found [here](https://www.ris.bka.gv.at/GeltendeFassung.wxe?Abfrage=LrW&Gesetzesnummer=20000655)
As you can see, the situation is a little bit complicated and could change any day.
Your one J&J jab is currently valid to ENTER Austria for 270 days.
Your one jab after your recovery is valid as entry to some events WITHIN Austria for 180 days. It is currenty a valid variant of “2G” *§2 Abs. 2 Z 1 lit. b COVID-19-BMV*
A validation like this is needed to visit someone in a hospital (or nursing home) or to visit an event without assigned seating arrangements.
Additionally in Vienna you will need a “2G”-validation (like the one you have) to enter restaurants or “sports facilites”.
Facilities are aloud to institute stricter rules. Some do (visiting someone in a hospital usually requires “2G+” eg. a 2G-vaccination AND a PCR-test)
The current rules have to be reevaluated before Saturday 2022-04-16. No one knows what the rules will be then.
BTW: the 210 days for people under 18 does **ONLY** apply to a “double vaccination” eg. a Vaccination with BionTech/Pfizer or Moderna.
Additionally I would encourage you to consider getting an additional shot. Studies show that a single shot of J&J even after a recovery doesn’t provide a lot protection.
Want to visit Austria in the summer too and I’m wondering is it ok if I got my second dose over 365 days ago? Do I need to get a third dose before traveling or is that vaccination pass from the previous year with 2 doses valid still?
And do i need that certificate to enter the country or just for some activities?
Or alternatively, can I just do a covid test before traveling and that’ll do the trick too? 🙂
