Finland and Poland have reported recent incidents involving Russian military aircraft violating their airspace. Helsinki has launched an investigation on suspicion of a border breach, while Warsaw confirmed the interception of a Russian bomber.
According to information from the Finnish Ministry of Defense, on May 23 during the day, two Russian military aircraft likely entered the country’s airspace near Porvoo. The Finnish Border Guard is actively investigating this incident.
Finnish Defense Minister Antti Kaikkonen emphasized the seriousness of the situation and assured that all necessary measures are being taken to clarify the circumstances of the event.
Meanwhile, the day before, the Polish Air Force intercepted a Russian Su-24 bomber in international airspace over the Baltic Sea. Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz reported that, under NATO orders, Polish pilots successfully detected, intercepted, and pushed back the Russian aircraft.
Kosiniak-Kamysz noted that the Russian Su-24 was performing dangerous maneuvers that threatened the security of Poland’s air borders. He also stressed that such provocations by Russia have become more frequent, particularly due to flights without transponders turned on, without submitting flight plans, and without communication with air traffic control services.
