“Think tank” is an understatement. The DIW is one of the most important economic research institutes in Germany. Let’s hope that they are right and that the government acts according to this. There are some encouraging signs, e.g. one of the floating LNG terminals could be ready by end of this year.
Interesting take…
“The DIW says Germany could reduce demand for Russian gas by 18-26% through saving electricity alone”
With electricity making up only 20% of primary energy consumption and gas in that electricity production less than 10% (10% was last years number, now it should be at about 6%)… I would really love to see their calculations as basic math says this is impossible.
Assassinate putin now
“The DIW report acknowledges that “added supply alone will not be enough to make up the current volume of Russian gas imports” but suggests Germany could well cover its needs if that expansion is paired with throttled demand”.
Ah, “throttled demand”, a phrase chosen because they’re too scared to say, “rationing”.

But they won’t. Because, you know, greed.
