  1. >“This condition has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision, and balance,” reads a statement from Joel’s team. “Under his doctor’s instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period. Billy is thankful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritizing his health.”

    >“I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience,” Joel says in a statement, “and thank you for understanding.”

    >Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus is a brain disorder where excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain’s ventricles. “[It] can affect several brain-related abilities, including thinking and concentrating, memory, movement and more,” reads an explainer on the Cleveland Clinic’s website. “The symptoms of NPH look very much like those of dementia, but NPH is sometimes reversible.”

  2. Well that’s incredibly sad. Hope the therapy works and he’s able to live comfortably.

  3. Oh no. So sorry to see this. Hoping he makes a good recovery.

  4. He puts on a great show. Wishing all the best! 🙏🏻

  5. God fucking damnit. I was hoping to take my wife to see him this year then he had a thing(get it) made plans for next year now this. I really hope he gets better but god damn

  6. Hope he’s ok

So the collaboration with Sting this summer is off, would have been a good combination

  7. Oh, that’s so sad. Physical therapy can do wonders… wishing him the very best for healing and recovery.

  8. Had a relative that had this condition. They performed surgery where a shunt is placed at the base of the skull to allow for the excess fluid to drain. They were able to continue their life activities afterwards.

  9. My father, unfortunately, has this condition, and I can say with confidence that even after undergoing the shunt procedure, there’s been no improvement only continued decline. At this point, it’s essentially full-blown dementia symptoms. I feel terrible for Billy.

  10. I actually have NPH. I had a shunt inserted in my brain to drain cerebral fluid into my abdomen. Not sure when my future holds.

  11. So glad I saw him a decade ago during the MSG residency

  12. I am a member of the Billy Joel cult. This is incredibly heart breaking.

  13. At least it wasn’t a heart attack-ack-ack-ack

  14. I really wish he gets through this ❤️❤️❤️
Such a beautiful man and musician

  15. Why are all good people getting capped right now, what’s going on

  16. Slow down, you’re doing fine. You can’t be everything you wanna be before your time.

  17. juuuust got tix for Cinci last night, damn that’s brutal. Heartbreaking. Wishing a healthy and a comfortable retirement to Billy, he’s earned it!

  18. One of my peers was supposed to be seeing him in concert. This news is very sad. I hope that Billy Joel recovers from this!

  19. There is a procedure that implants a shunt into the skull to drain CHF to other parts of the body to be reabsorbed. Its effective, relatively common, and should show some improvement assuming it hasn’t progressed too far.

  20. This world kills off the best of us when we need them most.

  21. Heartbreaking 😔 such a talent, so painful to hear about this diagnosis

  22. He is truly a legend. Got a chance to see him at the garden a few years back. It was the greatest performance. Sending lots of love
