  1. But hang on a minute… every government (including this one) and the press have been constantly bashing on about how the arts and creative industries are “useless / worthless” and filled with “mickey mouse degrees” and people should get real jobs “in cyber” etc rather than work in stuff that they claim doesn’t make any money… despite shitloads of evidence to the contrary like the film, television, gaming, design, literary, theatre, esports, and other fields bringing billions into the economy.

Insert Principle Skinner “Am I so out of touch? No its the children who are wrong!” meme here.

  2. Wondered why my shares in GAW were doing so well. Thank you for the article. Great company!

  3. A gentle reminder that this chain brings in more money than our supposedly sacred fishing industry.

  4. Praise be to Slaanesh.

My habit of recommending the Eisenhorn trilogy to everyone that wants a fast paced pulpy sci fi novel as a gateway to the 40k universe has converted about 20 people to the grimdark future

  5. OK, for the recent Combat Patrols not being crap they’ve earned it. Just.

  6. They seem like a great company who if I am not mistaken do this pretty much yearly.

  7. It’s not the first or even second time they’ve done this recently either. Good on them

  8. I wish Warhammer was pushed more as a British pop culture icon, it honestly could be the UK’s answer to Star Wars, but there doesn’t seem to be any major pop-culture push of it like there was Harry Potter.

I want Alton Towers themed Warhammer rides, I want Shocktober Fest Chaos, Nightgoblin etc themed Scare Maze, put John Blanche in the Tate cowards! When I get off the plane at Heathrow I want to see a big space marine in the Terminal like how you see tonnes of crazy Lord of the Rings stuff in NZ airports.

It’s kind of wild GW doesn’t do more to push their IP into more general pop culture stuff, (why are there for example, US-IP themed rides at Thorpe and not Warhammer?) and it’s more wild that Warhammer isn’t recognized as a massive player in Global British pop-culture.

Honestly theres more Warhammer themed stuff in Russia than there is the UK. It’s like how the US has way more medieval/Arthurian themed stuff than the UK does which is something else I’ve always found very bizarre. Where is the British verison of Medieval Times or Puy du Fou?

  9. While profit sharing is nice, GW’s base pay is famously terrible, relying on staff wanting to work there because they love the IP.

  10. James Workshop & John Warhammer out there making absolute bro moves.

  11. I might buy some for nostalgias sake just to support a company like this.

  12. Given that they employ about 1500 people, that’s got to be a lotta dough!

To give GW credit, their prices may be high, but they kept their production* all based in the UK, resisting pressure to offshore everything and sell their IP, like other British cultural institutions – Cadbury’s, Tomb Raider, James Bond, etc.

    *apart from books

  13. This is awesome. Games Workshop is awesome (even though it’s so damn expensive). Share price is insane – feel a little like too late to get in on them etc.
