hallo! after this years eurovision i really started showing a lot of interest in norwegian culture and especially fashion (because of kyle haha).
sølje really caught my attention and i think they are so so beautiful and have a really interesting history! so i was wondering if it would be okay to just wear them with normal clothes for a foreigner, and not with bunad or something like that? and my other question is where could i buy them for a reasonable price, so that i dont get scammed, and i could get it shipped to the eu? it is quite hard to navigate norwegian websites on my own haha

(also, i noticed that, what i think are children sølje, are cheaper. are they really different from the ‘adult’ version?)

im adding some reference photos of what im looking for, its quite a broad spectrum

  1. I have no idea where to find it reasonable, as they range from 300-3000€/$ and above. You could get a shitty one from temu for like 5€/$ though.

It is not normal to wear in everyday clothes, at all, it’s a bit weird to be honest. Though I wouldn’t call it inappropriate (don’t ask bunad police, they’ll flay you if you do (bunad police is a meme on that some Norwegians take it way too seriously)).

  2. I have honestly never seen someone wearing a sølje without a bunad before, so it’s not something people wear with normal clothes.

What you wear is your choice and I wouldn’t have any strong opinions against you wearing a sølje, but keep in mind that a real sølje is expensive. Between 1-2000 euros depending on size. It’s not something we wear in daily life.

  3. Most people will not give two fucks if you wear it. I for one think the worst part about this post is the fact that people watch eurovision. Fuck that genocide propaganda machine.

  4. This is a word I’ve almost forgotten. As a native speaker, thank you for reminding me 🙂

  5. The child versions/barnesøljer are usually about 1/3 to 1/5 of a regular size sølje, so you have to take that into consideration. That said, that makes them brooch sized. I’ve seen people wearing them on coats, jackets and hats, so why not? 🤷🏻‍♀️

You can find the child versions in regular online shops like gullfunn.no – bjorklund.no etc, but I personally have purchased my sølje collection in this online and family run shop and they’ve been super accommodating [Brendemo gull og sølv](https://www.brendemogullogsolv.com/categories/barnesoljer)

Can’t guarantee any of these companies ship abroad, though.
