Towns and villages along the coast of Ireland currently have thousands of properties and rooms available to rent on a short-term basis – but many have no long-term accommodation at all.

Concerns have been raised about the impact of holiday-home “blackspots” on the housing crisis, with a senior county council manager causing controversy this week after he called for a community-led boycott of the owners of second homes.
