Some friends and I went to hike in Zakopane and saw some paid parking in a restaurant lot, but nearby a blue sign with a P and an arrow. Had no indication it was a paid spot. A woman came to us saying it was actually paid parking, and it would be 20 zloty. Seemed pushy and her sign sucked ass.

Does anyone know if this is a known scam?

  1. Hello! Welcome to Zakopane xD
Even poles don’t go there anymore. People there are very greedy. There is no free parking there. There is no free thing existing in Zakopane.

  2. Paid parking must be properly marked and include the terms as well as payment information in a visible place. This applies equally to municipal and private parking. Next time just ask where you can find „regulamin parkingu”. If it’s not there, just drive away.

  3. Zakopane is definitly a Polish capital od scam, and Górale (Mountainers XD) are the worst part of our citizens. They’ll take every penny out of your pocket, and at the end they’ll still nag you.

  4. This blue sign is not valid. It’s too low. Any sign being this low doesn’t mean anything. I bet it doesn’t even have official certificate at the back. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was stolen.

  5. It’s not uncommon to come across “unofficial” parking in Zakopane, it’s usually people who own restaurants, cafes, land who make a bit of a cash.

I know this spot, and iirc, you can’t get closer without being on the National Park land. 20PLN is very reasonable for a day’s parking and it’s definitely not a scam.

She told you the price, you have the choice the leave, park further away and walk down, but there is no free parking in Zakopane (unless it’s official city parking out of hours).

  6. Did she also make you pay for taking those photos?

  7. It’s not a scam. It’s cheap.

A scam would be about 200 zł for an hour.

  8. FTFY I can recommend an app “Park4Night” while it’s for RVs it might be useful to find free parking across all of Europe

  9. Zakopane has disgusting food and greedy people who smell bad. That’s my experience from that’s place.

  10. People! Turists! Everyone! DO NOT FREAKING GO THERE! You go there and you get 100% chances to be scammed or overpaid shitty quality by greedy locals who are known for their crazy greedines in the entire country.

  11. Polish highlanders are synonymous with unbounded and shameless greed. Unfortunately they are known for this kind of shady practices.

Best way is to just keep as far from Zakopane as possible.

  12. Went 2 years ago after over 20yrs, and can confirm. Was so disappointed, Zakopane used to be a dream. Im hoping that the Polish sea has surpassed this same phase, and its worth going this summer or next 🤞
