A woman has been shot dead by police and a man has been injured and taken to hospital after an incident in South Melbourne.
Police swarmed on an area near Park and Dow streets about 5pm on Saturday.

A police officer was pinned between a car and a wall during the incident but was not seriously hurt.
Police have taped off an area near the intersection and have ushered concerned pedestrians away from the scene.

Nearby residents told Nine News Melbourne that they heard what sounded like gunshots.
“There were a few bangs, not quite sure what they were, but my wife thought they were gunshots”, resident Alan said.
He said police arrived en masse.
