The last time the World Championships were held in Slovakia in 2019, Finland became world champions after beating Canada in the final.

The 2029 Ice Hockey World Championships will be held in Slovakia. This was decided by the IIHF at the congress on the occasion of the World Championship in Stockholm.
As in 2011 and 2019, the games will be played in Bratislava and Kosice.
The award was a mere formality. Although Great Britain and Hungary had also unofficially put themselves forward, in the end Slovakia was the only formal candidate.
The next World Championships will be held in Zurich and Freiburg (2026), Düsseldorf and Mannheim (2027) and Paris and Lyon (2028).
