I fear that the concept of retirement in itself will vanish in the next decade or so. None of the pension plans have enough money to sustain themselves.
I think this will be more common in more European and some wealthy Asian nations, given the lack of up coming children. Imo the quality of life will go down in the next decades due to multiple factors. Idk how to stop this decline.
we just cannot have infinite growth forever. Our economy in europe will not keep growing forever. And right now we are reaching a very stagnating stage, that’s why many developed countries are starting to look for solutions to keep the “great” economy that we are used to have, but it will require people to sacrifice their free time for more work to keep the economy running, especially when people do not have kids, so the elders have to keep working to fill the gap.
But honestly even with more hours of work, it will probably not work. Just look at Japan, they’re currently in an economic crisis, yet they have terrible work hours. Their lives are getting harder everyday despite being a big economy. The issue is that there is no infinite growth, at one point, any developed country will hit the wall.
Social democracy at work ladies and gentlemen. It always come down to the rich taking away the rights they “gave” to the poor. Only way to prevent that is for the poor to take the rights they “gave” to the rich
Fun fact – the politicians that passed this bill will be able to retire at a comfortable 60 years of age(!!!) I don’t know why we allowed this to happen.
>“The good news is that many Danes not only have the health but also the desire to continue working — even after reaching the state pension age,” he continued.
Congrats, we’ve deemed you’re healthy enough to not retire – aren’t you so excited to be allowed to spend more years working!?! Sounds like something from a dystopian novel.
I think firstly EU should isolate itself from the happenings in Africa and Middle-East. We shouldn’t hate our elders who worked 30-50 years in our countries. Reduce the corruption, deport those immigrants, who cannot integrate themself into the society, who lives on Welfare after several years for example. Only in Germany there are atleast 15 million immigrants since 2025 and in 2023 alone it costs more than 28 BILLION euros for them.
I know that I won’t be popular with this mentality, but I think until Europe solve it’s internal problems, we should focus on us and the native Europeans. After that we can help others.
Yeah as dane who is about to complete my masters, this absolutely sucks. I have already decided that when I get a job I am immediately going to put away money on personal account, so that I can retire before the age of 70.
My fear is that this will backfire because young people won’t spend as much money to stimulate the economy because they need it to retire. I am not an economist but I don’t see this actually helping the economy in the long run.
I predict that it will lead to an even bigger divide between the upper and lower classes. The upper classes will be able to afford going on pension before due to savings, but people in lower paid jobs who might not be able to afford putting money away, will just have to work even longer to compensate.
To say nothing of the fact that the politician will still be able to retire at 60. They are pulling up the ladder behind them and spitting on those below.
Utter balls.
You work all your life creating value for other people and when you can’t do it anymore they say “sorry you should’ve saved your meagre wages”
Fuck these people.
