  1. Looking at the photo, one can make some certain observations, stating which may result in being called something…

That reminds me of those other news where it was a certain group of people who got the majority of houses. Was it in Kildare?

  2. Surely non citizens should be banned from buying houses in a housing crisis? Or is that quite far right of me?

  3. Great news. We have a thriving property market.

  4. Are the Houses free? If not, then probably those are the people with the money (deposit) I guess.

  5. The government’s inability affects everyone — Irish and non-Irish alike

  6. Jeez, a lot of people a here are clueless… If this was a photo from America – makes sense. But if you think this is normal situation in Ireland, I guess say goodbye to ever owing a house here. If you can’t see a problem here, you are hopeless.

  7. 180,000 people enter Ireland per year
33,000 houses built ( if your lucky)
It’s simple supply & demand that cannot keep up !!

somehow this statement is far right…..
Down vote away there, common sense has left this country years ago !!

  8. This thread is a great example to people like me that say this sub is left leaning. Nope. I stand corrected. Racism and far right shit are rampant here.

  9. Just even having a mortgage of nearly €500k is mind blowing to me, especially as a ftb.

But then imagining having a mortgage of 500k and your living in Clondalkin.

What a disaster and abject failure of a housing policy over the last 15 years.

  10. Turn them into HMOs and put 7 or 8 people in each and then it’s sorted/s

  11. I thought immigration doesn’t affect the housing crisis?

  12. I’ve been living here for 13 years, I’ve been renting for all of that meaning I’ve not had the ability to save for a deposit until i moved in with family, I’ve been living with family for the last two years who have now decided to sell the property which is fine.

Can I find something I’m able to afford to rent on my salary, no. Do I have enough of a mortgage approved to buy in this country on my own with the deposit I’ve put together over the last two years, also no.

Context, I’m not on a poor wage. I’m on 45k+, I still can’t afford to do either option in my own, which is absolutely insane.

So it looks like when the sale of the house completes, I’ll be leaving Ireland.

  13. Do the maths on houses being built and people entering the country. It doesn’t take an Einstein to figure that one out.

Funny that people will downvote this because they know it’s true.

  14. Is it because people prefer new builds or are they better value than buying second hand homes.

  15. Estate agents could easily do electronic ticketing, give time slots, make it less stressful on people. But it’s free money, why bother out in any effort.

  16. There is so much wrong with this picture. But it isn’t just that there isn’t enough houses.

Is the need to get people to move out of Dublin, there are just so many people concentrated into that relatively small part of the island.

I read an article today pointing out that the Irish economy was overheating, I have read other articles in peer-reviewed studies pointing out major issues in the US economy. I would not be surprised if at some point in the next year or two we have another 2008 style global recession, when that happens there will be mass emigration from this country as people go off in search of work.

At least the current shortages of housing we won’t have much in the way of ghost estates like we had the last time around.

I know that’s little consolation for the people waiting in this picture what can one do?

There is also another issue that doesn’t get much attention. 38 houses, so if we assume four people on average per house that’s about 150 people, those people would need medical services, transport services, education services, other public services like gardai et cetera.

It all adds up. Add these extra demands being provision for?

  17. The problem will always be the government and billionaires that get rich from this mess.

  18. Canada and OZ have banned non citizens from buying property and prices are stalling. Why haven’t we?

  19. I know someone who bought a house in Clondalkin 20 years ago for 300k and we thought they were mad. Little did we know
