Maltese UEFA-licensed coach Dylan Galea will be on the sidelines for one of the biggest matches in European women’s football this evening, as part of Arsenal’s backroom staff for the UEFA Women’s Champions League final against FC Barcelona.
The Gunners are led by head coach Renée Slegers, with Galea contributing behind the scenes as the team aims to reclaim European glory.
The final will be played at the Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon, Portugal — the home of Sporting CP — and kicks off at 18:00, Malta time.
It’s a historic venue that previously hosted the 2005 UEFA Cup final and several Euro 2004 matches.
This marks Arsenal’s second appearance in a European final. Their first and only continental triumph came in 2007 when they defeated Umeå to win the then UEFA Women’s Cup.
Meanwhile, Barcelona are entering their sixth UWCL final and aiming for their fourth title, having already won in 2021, 2023, and 2024.
For Maltese football, Galea’s involvement at this level highlights the growing presence of local coaches on the international stage.
