After hours of debating through the night, the House officially passed Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” in the early hours of the morning by the slimmest possible margin — 215 to 214. And almost up until the last minute, it was really unclear if the chamber was going to be able to pass the $4 trillion tax and immigration bill that advances key parts of Trump’s legislative agenda. Right, and we covered the GOP infighting that was holding up the bill extensively in yesterdays show. But without rehashing everything, the key background you need to know is that the main holdouts preventing passing were hard-line conservatives who wanted deeper cuts to offset the trillions of dollars that would be added to the deficit.
With those members specifically calling for deeper cuts to Medicaid and other benefits programs — a move that was deeply opposed by more moderate, blue-state Republicans.
And while you had House Speaker Mike Johnson expressing confidence that he would be able to appease the competing factions of his party and get the bill passed, top conservative leaders said they needed more time for negotiations. With House Freedom Caucus chair Rep. Andy Harris even explicitly saying yesterday that, as is, there was “no way” the bill would pass in the immediate future. But, clearly, Johnson was ultimately able to secure enough votes from the far-right flank of his party to get this passed. Though, notably here, Harris did end up voting “present” on the legislation — making him the only member to do so. With him explaining his decision on X, writing: “I voted to move the bill along in the process for the President. There is still a lot of work to be done in deficit reduction and ending waste, fraud, and abuse in the Medicaid program.” — the only member.” But, beyond that, we only saw two other Republicans joining all Democrats in voting against the measure. And two others didn’t vote at all — one because he fell asleep and the other because he couldn’t get his voting card in time.

  1. Please let the world know the names of the representatives that feel asleep and failed to vote be cause they “lost” control of their voting card, history deserves to know the names of the incompetent/negligent officials that helped end democracy in the USA, just for the record!

  2. The DNC needs to take a hard look at themselves, because this is a much on them as it is on the Republicans, this party let us down despite their claims and we can't forget ANY of this

  3. Don't the govenors of the state those reps are from appoint a replacement till there can be an election? Why haven't they been replaced and in this current situation wouldn't it be paramount to require the bill be tabled until all seats are filled? Seems like since it's so close it would be an important reason to question its passage. A whole population of Americans were not represented in this vote due to their reps deaths.

  4. This is a good reason to not put old people in congress that can fall over and die at any moment. This wouldn’t have passed had we had somewhat younger people in those seats.

  5. Bro fell asleep, if you are falling asleep during a vote like this, get out of the fucking office, you are too old to be doing this shit

  6. THE USA IS DOOMED….3 YEARS WILL SEE MILLIONS LIVING IN THESTREETS….10 TIMESWORSE THAN THE GREAT DEPRESSION AND THE BEAUTY OF IT ALL IT WAS THEIR OWN DECISION VOTING IN A CLOWN….

  7. Can we take a moment to pause and list out all the people who voted in favor for this bill that wants to add trillions of debt while cutting billions of dollars from medicaid?

  8. This fellow is just like that Benny Johnson fellow. He talks the same crap, except he favors the Democrat population. The shit is piling up so fast, you will need wings to stay above it…..

  9. Shocker, a representative in congress that’s been there probably since the 80, dies in office without giving up the seat to a modern politician

  10. Hmm, Kind of makes me wonder what type of person would want to cut spending on medicade in order to cut their own taxes. Probably the same type that say that charity would take up what government programs currently do, the same type that make more money than 90% of the country, but pay less to charity than some old lady on SSI.

  11. I hope this BBB passes because many Americans need to experience the pain before they understand why they should vote and why they vote for.

Otherwise, it’s just a joke to them.

  12. It’s crazy cutting Medicaid to support tax bill that directly benefits higher income households holds. 800 billion over 10 years to those who can’t afford health care.. absolutely insane.. as someone who works in community who has been told by people that they had to give up their short acting insulin in order to afford food who was already getting food from a food bank . This is absolutely ridiculous

  13. Who's watching the tarriff money being collected by the federal government? 😅😂 who's in charge watching the hen house? 😅😂

  14. This is a bill that gives small businesses owners and ordinary Americans tax cuts what are yall crying about 💀 we get to keep more of our money oh no ur all liberal asf
