Romania’s allies relieved by the victory of the pro-European party • FRANCE 24 English

Centrist and pro-European candidate Nicușor Dan has won Romania’s presidential election, defeating far-right nationalist George Simion with 53.6% of the vote. Dan’s victory, following a campaign emphasizing anti-corruption and EU integration, was welcomed by the European Union as a reaffirmation of Romania’s commitment to Western alliances. The election followed a turbulent period marked by political instability and concerns over Russian interference.

  1. There here’s a golden rule in Romania: whenever a nationalist or extremist reaches the second round, Romanians mobilize en masse. This isn’t the first time it has happened. Georgescu would have stood virtually no chance of becoming president.

  2. Our elected president, Nicușor Dan was under constant attack throughout the campaign, from both the ruling parties (their candidate didn't catch round 2) and the extremist/nationalist camp led by Simion. And despite all that, he won decisively.

  3. Common sense has won! Congrats to all romanians for voting the right person for president!✌🏻🇷🇴🇪🇺

  4. So, there is democracy only if they vote what Macron says?

EU has clearly been involved in the internal politicsl affairs of Rumania…a clear attack against democracy

  5. Well done, Romanian voters! We've seen the far-right undermining democracy & equality around the world, it's so encouraging every time voters refuse to give the far-right the power they seek.
