I feel like 1300 a month is what they wanted to pay rather than their budget
1 bed apartments are about €1,600
It’s people like these we need social housing for, ordinary workers who can’t afford accommodation
The country has badly lost its way under ffg,
the British forced the building of cottages for landless labourers in the 1880s,we have now, arrived at a worse starting position than then
Try living in London, NY, Chicago, or Paris etc. Rents reflect demand. If you want to live in a capital close to the centre expect to pay
“Ninety-nine per cent of the people that were my friends in school are either in Australia or America right now. And I don’t want to do that. I want my kids to have Irish passports. I wanted them to be Irish citizens but we’re being really left with no option”.
If your kid is born abroad they’ll still get an Irish passport and be Irish citizens. I know it’s not the point of the article but a weird thing to say. If there’s a better life abroad for them, which there may well be, my advice would be to go for it.
Housing is a shitshow but 2 full time workers with no kids can afford more than €1300 per month.
The problem is that they cant afford to rent **and** save up for their own place.
You would wonder why people are more exercised in protesting about events thousands of miles away instead of for issues like this closer to home.
Country is gone to shit, all the cunts squeezing money out of the ordinary people by charging exorbitant prices for rent, should be forced to sell their properties to verified private buyers.
I fucking hate landlords so much these days, I’d spent years renting before I was able to have my own house, but at least we were able to save… We were renting a lovely 3 bed semi detached house for €625pm back in late 2000s. People had a completely different mentality back then, actually looked out for each other and helped out where possible.
The type of house we were renting would now be bordering €2000pm, even though the cunt who owns it still only pays €600 mortgage on it. Fucking greediness in this country is through the roof.
It’s been shit for a while which has normalised this. That’s why you get people using previous, what the fuck prices to hand wave stories like these away
So this is the rent that working couples can afford. However they are expected to pay rents that essentially leave them unable to afford to live. Gents are only increasing so obviously wages are too low. Let’s get wages higher so. If that’s not possible perhaps it’s time for a massive national strike. Perhaps it’s time to take the whole place down if people can’t afford to live in it anymore. What’s the point.
Get mad about it now all ye want lads, the real chance to have done something about it was in last November during the GE. I remember everyone getting up in a hoop about FFG during the lockdowns as well, by the polls and the fair words you would swear they were done.
Only for them to electioneer on false promises, cynically campaigning on disability rights and making shite up.
And in turn, the fear doubt and uncertainty was enough, non-voters didn’t get even off their hole.
And here we are again, the same all over.
Kind fucking getting sick of it now tbh.
Surely with such mismanagement in government any opposition party would be banking political capital and cleaning up in the polls. Makes you wonder why this isn’t the case.
She never stated that they would be open to share an apartment. Like these people.need a dose of reality. 1300 quid won’t let your a box to.live in
No point in fucking complaining now….there was an election there to vote for anyone other than FFFG and try get some change but they were too fucking lazy to go out and vote!
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes!
Scapegoating landlords is redundant. Housing supply is the issue and cutting through the red tape and identifying quicker routes to builds is the answer.
X amount of houses finished but they never release what percentage of that is for human consumption and what per centage is being bought up by companies/pension funds etc.
Straight away there should be a cessation to companies buying property and if a pension fund wants to buy/build an apartment building then let it be widely known that that is happening and what the building is so people can know what exactly is for sale and what isn’t.
We are having to totally open our borders here as well. The government needs to be giving SERIOUS tax breaks to parents to have kids. 2 or more kids should result in no pay being taxed at the higher rate, or something to that effect. A serious move needs to be made.

The sad truth is a lot of Irish people can’t stand the thought of other Irish people getting ahead in life. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve seen an Irish person comment that Irish people in social housing are scumbags and the dregs of society and they deserve nothing.
