The first ten minutes of the game saw the two teams trading chances, but the Swiss created more dangerous chances, which eventually also led to the first goal of the game: a puck was redirected off Nino Niederreiter’s leg and found its way into the net.
Three minutes later, the Swiss recorded another goal, this one was attributed to Ken Jäger, but Jäger’s shot had actually bounced off defender Markus Lauridsen and went straight into Denmark’s goal. The Swiss ended the first period with another goal from Nino Niederreiter, making it 3-0 Switzerland.
The Swiss started the second period with three minor penalties, but managed to defend their net despite the Danes having a 5-3 advantage. Switzerland also got a chance to play on the power play, but they also were not able to convert any of their chances. The Swiss found the back of the net in the 38th minute of play (Denis Malgin) and went into the second period break with a four-goal advantage.
Four minutes into the third period, Sandro Schmid scored another goal for the Swiss. Damien Riat (53rd minute) and Tyler Moy (54th minute) brought the game to a close for the Swiss, ensuring a 7-0 victory.
The Swiss have thus gained another chance at winning the World Championship tomorrow. The game against the USA, which won their game against Sweden 6-2, will take place in Stockholm. Puck-drop is scheduled for 20:20.
