Weird Situation

Hi,

So me and my friend are in Riga, Latvia on vacation.

It was around 11:00pm & we decided to drive to this observation tower:

We parked up & went up the Observation tower it was around 23:40.

On the way down we heard a metal noise & a few seconds later saw a person with a flashlight, further up the path from where we had parked.

We turned our flashlights off and continued descending & got back in the car. At the same time another person got into their car and drove towards us.

He was in a military outfit, a pickup truck & asked us something is Latvian. I said to him do you speak English? He responded with "yes, we doing a military training exercise" . I said to him "we are going now" but he responded with "Do you have 10/15 minutes free". He then said something along the lines of – "can you help me with some military training". At this point I was like yep fuck that so I said "We are going home now sorry".

I am wondering if someone could give me an insight as to why he would ask us to help? Seems really dodgy and weird.

Part of me wanted to say "yeah sure we can help" but didn't want to potentially die.
