A bear sighting Saturday on a golf course in Japan’s Ishikawa Prefecture brought an early end to a tournament on the women’s second-tier Step Up Tour due to safety concerns.
The final round of the Twinfields Ladies was canceled at GC Twin Fields in the city of Komatsu shortly after a temporary halt around 12:30 p.m.
Reina Maeda, who led with a 6-under 138 total after Friday’s second round, was declared the winner of the tournament.
“I was very surprised, but I’m very happy,” the 19-year-old was quoted as saying on the Japan LPGA Tour’s website.
