Israel begins ‘extensive’ Gaza operation • FRANCE 24 English

This hospital in Kunis in the south of the Gaza Strip is one of the very few that hasn’t completely shut down. It continues to receive dozens of wounded victims amid incessant Israeli air strikes. Where are the Muslims? Where are the Arab nations? Do they not see what is happening to us? Every day, women and children are slaughtered. How is this their fault? Isn’t this unjust? Does no one see us? Does no one care about us? Are we just sheep being slaughtered? But the situation for people in Gaza is about to get worse. The Israeli army has launched new ground operations in the enclave. During the operation, we will increase and expand operational control in the Gaza Strip while dissecting the strip and moving the population for its own safety in all the places where we’ll operate. We are moving forward according to an orderly and gradual plan. Israel’s intensified assault comes as international concerns mount over the dire humanitarian conditions for Palestinians due to an Israeli blockade on aid since March. Much of the population faces the risk of famine with hospitals unable to treat even basic wounds due to shortages of medical supplies. Israel said on Sunday it would allow a basic amount of food for the population to ensure that a hunger crisis does not develop. The stepping up of Israel’s campaign also calls into question the safety of Israeli hostages held by Hamas. Both sides say there has been no progress yet in the latest round of truce talks in Doha.

Palestinian health authorities reported that Israeli airstrikes killed at least 130 people overnight from Saturday to Sunday, while the Israeli military announced the commencement of “extensive ground operations” in both northern and southern Gaza. This development came after sources from both sides confirmed that there had been no progress in the latest round of indirect talks between Israel and Hamas in Qatar.
