I fear that as much as everyone knows this is a good idea it’s going to cost so much that it becomes politically too difficult.
> But despite widespread admiration for the service, its fragmentation after cuts under the coalition government means restarting it would be difficult and costly.
Every time the Conservatives are voted out, we have to spend a load of money to restore the services they cut, at a much greater cost than it would be to just have kept the service in the first place. Here’s hoping they never make it to government again.
this shld be a non partisan policy. the evidence supporting it is overwhelming.
If tomorrow the government announced that from now on, everyone had their own personal driver because it wasn’t safe to drive. In 20 years when the scheme got cut, you’d have people convinced that there is no way you can have people driving their own cars.
Apply this to almost any state scheme and you’ll realise how ridiculous our dependence on the state is
Rather than have a winter fuel allowance back or prompted up, invest it all into this.
Sure start pays for itself many times over; anyone who advocated for it being cut to save money shouldn’t be in charge of pin money, much less the treasury.
