Trucker’s protest set to put Dublin into ‘complete lockdown’ for a week

  1. Canadian here. We’re very sorry about all of this. They’re a constant embarrassment for the majority of us. The worst thing here at home is seeing our beautiful flag being flown on a vehicle and immediately assuming that the owner is a racist, science-denying, mouth-breathing sack of shit. Again, sorry.

  2. I just don’t get why they want people to drive to protest rising fuel costs? Diesel is too dear to be using it on protesting!

  3. It’s come up before, but I’m still not convinced these people actually exist.

The “Irish Truckers and Haulage Association” is a group that only seems to exist on Facebook. Google only shows me results for them in relation to protests. They don’t have a spokesperson and nobody knows anyone involved with them.

The *actual* haulage body here, the **Irish Road Haulage Association**, don’t even know who they are, and they have previously announced similar protests that didn’t really amount to much –

Their demands make no sense and can’t be met.

“Trucker” is a strange term for a supposedly Irish driver to use, and I don’t know any lads here who’d call themselves that. They might as well have announced the cabbies are protesting in Dublin or some ranchers from Meath.

I think there’s a real good chance this could be related to what happened in Washington, where a supposed grassroots truckers protest organised online fell apart at exactly the same time internet access and payment channels from Russia became restricted.

  4. Everyone needs to remember that when it comes to news, Dublin Live is a cespit of overreaction and nothingness.

  5. ELI5: A lot of complaining about the rising cost of fuel, demanding something be done – a protest is organised with demands to get something done and it’s met with nothing but criticism.

Like not even a little “Sure we’ll see how they get on” in a curiosity type of way if nothing else.

    Why?
