FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – A new World War II memorial was dedicated at Veterans National Memorial Shrine and Museum on Sunday.
At 12 p.m., community members gathered at the organization’s O’ Day Road location for the ceremony.
The memorial, donated and developed by John Ley Monument in Avilla, honors all World War II veterans, including members of the Ley family.
The 6’, black granite monument features an inscription on its front side saluting all who served in the war, while its backside pays tribute to William, Charles, Donald, Victor, and John of the Ley family and their in-law, Carrol Glasgow.
In addition to honoring all World War II veterans this Memorial Day weekend, the organization is hosting a ‘Rolling Thunder’ Memorial Day program starting at 1 p.m. on Monday.
The event coordinates with the Rolling Thunder’s ‘Ride for Freedom’, which departs at 12 p.m. from Harley-Davidson of Fort Wayne.
It will also include a dedication of a new POW/MIA tribute bench in memory of U.S. military members who died in captivity or were never recovered.
