The Philippines and the Czech Republic celebrated their shared commitment in upholding safe and ethical labor migration, as the two countries kicked off their friendship week at the Central Office of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on May 20.
Over 7,000 Filipinos live in the Central European nation and, according to DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, is one of the country’s vital partners in Europe.
“The Czech Republic has become the vital partner in Europe with shared democratic values, mutual commitment, safe, ethical, and dignified labor migration and with over 7,000 Filipinos currently working across there, their contributions are valued and respected,” he said.

Czech ambassador to the Philippines Karel Hejč also thanked the DMW for the generous hospitality.
“As a member state of the European Union, Czech Republic has one of the highest standards of labor works, healthcare, and social protection in the world, while the Philippines is one of the two leading countries that the Czech Republic has the program for skills employment,” the diplomat said.
Both the DMW and the embassy of the Czech Republic emphasized how important it was to develop “holistic support systems” for over 10,000 OFWs employed there.
A job fair was also held at Robinsons Galleria on Wednesday, with DMW-accredited Czech employers, for jobseekers can pre-register for opportunities in the sectors of transportation, manufacturing, logistics, and other service sectors with basic salaries ranging from 2,000 to 3,000 euros (50,000 to 75,000 Czech koruna or P126,110 to P189,165).
