The clip, widely shared on social media in May 2025, appears to show the pope saying, “Vance, you flip-flop faster than pages in the Bible,” followed by harsh criticism of Vance’s use of religion in politics. The video also accused Vance of backing policies that go against Christian values and using faith as a political tool, reported Snopes.
However, there is no evidence that the pope said these things. Searches of official Vatican sources and credible news outlets show no record of such a statement. The video was confirmed to be a deepfake, which means digitally altered or made with the use of artificial intelligence (AI).
Experts pointed out some visual errors in the viral clip, such as facial distortions, and a deepfake voice detector gave the audio a low authenticity score, as per Snopes.
The account believed to have posted the original video, TikTok user @frv13172kk1, has since removed the clip. The user has shared other AI-edited videos in the past as well, Snopes reported.
So, the pope did not make such comments about JD Vance. The video is AI generated and should not be considered real.
