Osaka, May 23: It is estimated that 200 persons have been killed and 500 injured at Toyoka as the result of an earthquake. Many hundreds of casualties occurred at Kenosaki, where an extensive fire broke out, the whole town being ablaze and a great stampede followed.
Seismological observations indicate that the earthquake was caused by a landslide.
Damage to sericulture has been most extensive economically, but only about one million yens worth of property is covered by insurance.
