A random search for Russian ship detained Denmark reveals several cases of someone owing someone else money. Often complicated by the sailors on the boats not being paid.
Edit. Update 05/11-2021. There is a Russian ship detained in a Danish harbor. Danish court system demands the Russian owner deposits 40 million kroner in order for the release of the ship. That money will be kept by the court system until whoever it is that claims the Russian owner owes that amount proves it in a court case. One article mentioned a Canadian company making the claim.
On a curious note the Russians (do not know which branch of the Russian system) falsified the information that the AIS uses to broadcast where ships are located. Suddenly a Russian military ship showed up on the screen, but no visible confirmation of said ship was possible. Danish military calls it spoofing https://www.forcepoint.com/cyber-edu/spoofing#:~:text=Spoofing%20is%20the%20act%20of,Name%20System%20(DNS)%20server. A word I have heard before, so always good to learn something new.

Apparently the ship is in a dispute with a Canadian company regarding an Arctic Cruise that it bailed from. The ship was attempted to be detained in a Portuguese harbor, but fled before authorities got aboard. The dispute amount is 39.6 million dk.kr. (6.16 million US dollars). The ship is owned by a “self governing institution” that is owned by the Russian state, but since the ship has been rented out as a private cruise ship, the ship can not claim diplomatic immunity.
Did Vikings attack Russian vessel? or it was famous Danish pirates?
>The arrest of the vessel was carried out as an interim measure in a third party claim related to the previous activities of the Akademik Ioffe vessel, it said.
The so called Debtor’s Prison. Pay back what you owe or stay grounded. Those are the laws of the sea. The sea never forgets your debts.
