Manila Esposito: “Last year was the most important and satisifying year of my career”

With that success comes expectation – and pressure.

“It’s much more difficult to confirm yourself,” she said. “But I’ll put all my effort into trying to get close to that result again.”

Esposito has competed several times in 2025 already, including an all-around win at April’s Jesolo Trophy competition, where she posted a 55.750 score in the all-around – the fourth-best mark of the year according to thegymter.net.

It’s a continuation of the success that has defined the last twelve months for Esposito.

“Last year was the most important and satisfying year of my career,” she reflected. “It started with the European Championships in Rimini, which went really well. I won four golds and it was super satisfying.”

Then came Paris – where her two medal wins outdid her wildest dreams.

“I was crying with joy,” said Esposito. “From the end of the competition until we returned to the Olympic Village, I just kept crying. Being on the podium with my teammates, it’s something I still can’t put into words.”

Competing with the world’s best made an impression, too.

“Being on the field with champions – the Americans, the Brazilians, all the other teams – it’s super exciting,” she said. “You’re competing with gymnasts of such a high level.”

And despite being the youngest member of a veteran-filled Italian team – Esposito was just 17 in her Olympic debut – she didn’t feel any burden of her youth.

“I didn’t feel out of place. I felt like this was my place and that I deserved to be there,” she said.
