Full embargo on oil could stop war – ex-Putin aide

  1. The heading says “Full embargo on oil could stop war”, but in the article itself, I can only find references to a “real embargo on oil and gas exports from Russia” and a “total energy embargo”. That is a very significant difference.

  2. The threat of more war can stop war. Give longer-range weapons to Ukraine to hit more oil tanks across the border.

  3. I mean it doesn’t even have to be for so long. Cut all oil and gas, and tell Putin if he pulls out of Ukraine they will start again.

Then in slower time work to fully remove Russian energy imports.

  4. I think the question is not what will stop him, but what might make him consider accepting the minimum conditions that he could sell as a win as fast as possible.

  5. That’s only going to happen if things get worse.

If Putin keeps testing Europe’s resolve this might well happen.

Like always it’s “All according to Putin’s plan”

  6. I’m all for a full oil embargo, but I highly doubt that it will stop the war. What I expect it to do, along with other sanctions, is to make it way more difficult for Russia to continue the war in Ukraine.

  7. Absolutely. Not only an embargo on Russian oil, gas & coal by G7, EU and the “West” but also sanctions on any country that buys those resources from Putin whilst he occupies Ukrainian territory and wages war there. When Putin has withdrawn all forces, has given up all claims to the Donbas & Crimea then we can talk about the reparations Russia will pay.
