Listening to Ben Kentish this morning on LBC; he’s always struck me as quite balanced but probably more left-leaning than others at the channel, but even he is promoting the ‘isn’t Angela Rayner calling Reform voters idiots by calling Farage a snake oil salesman’. Hillary still gets the blame for calling MAGA ‘deplorables’, when all their behaviour & language since has indeed been deplorable.

    An old guy came on to give his view and said he was voting Reform and just waded into repeating bullshit about France putting migrants in boats to send here, how Europe was our enemy etc. Just repeating talking points without listening to the counter-factual (when challenged with the actual truth he does the usual ‘I’m just a lay person/I’m not as clever as you), without actually applying critical thinking to a different viewpoint.

    I fear there is no hope with people like him (although he was 83…)

    I think over the past few decades we’ve got used to our politicians resigning at the slightest hint of controversy but the days of politicians trying to please everyone (or more like trying not to offend anyone) are over. Voters want to hear politicians sharing their controversial views, provided of course that they agree with those views.

    It’s divisive but at least it’s more honest.

    They should have focused on the actual one where there’s a clear use of his platform to spread hatred and that’s around mental health.

    Edit: and yes this is the kind of PC policing, digging through everything in someone’s past and making hit piece articles out of context that has led to Reforms rise. Teenagers say all sorts of nasty shit, it’s part of growing up and discovering moral boundaries.

    I don’t doubt a single person in this thread has said things much much worse when they were younger.
