I wonder why they did not do it when Sanna Marin was prime minister.
It’s definitely time to undo the damage the Zionists have done to the people of Palestine. I remember when there was a PLO branch office here.
What does the map of Palestine look like? What borders are we recognizing here?
What does it even mean to recognice a palestinian state? All they want is, that the whole land from the “river to the sea” would be palestinian. Israel gave up on governing the palestinian areas years ago and apparently it was not good enough for palestinians/hamas and october 7th happened.
We should not recognice a country ran by literal terrorists
Kinda weird to hand over control of a country to a government consisting of folks who have killed thousands of people, raped children and still have kidnapped people in their control.
Palestine is not an independent country at the moment, so I see no reason to recognize it.
Crazy how people in this comment section are defending literal terroristt state Israel and not on the side of Palestinians. You know, the people being killed, bombed and starved by a country trying to commit as many war crimes as possible. Our government leaders and President Stubb have already stated that at some point Finland will recognize Palestine. President Stubb even stated that recognizing Palestine would be being on the right side of history. So if our president thinks we are NOW on the wrong side of history, why not correct that?
EDIT: Here’s the news article where Stubb said that recognizing Palestine would be being on the right side of history [https://www.hs.fi/politiikka/art-2000011250166.html](https://www.hs.fi/politiikka/art-2000011250166.html)
Wow! The skepticism of this sub. I find it fascinating.
How about no? Terrorism should not be rewarded.
Frankly, what is going to happen is that Israel will ethnically cleanse first Gaza and then West Bank. Palestinians will be driven into an diaspora.
Is it a war crime? Yes. Is it genocide? Also yes. Is anyone with enough power to actually matter doing anything to stop it? No.
I have very little faith in changing anything about this anymore. There are atrocities being done in various places all around the globe and most of the time nothing is being done. China can do whatever in Tibet and to uighurs. Russia can just genocide its minorities in Ukraine. Sudan – I do not even want to talk about Sudan. Azerbaijan cleansed Nagorno-Karabah and while it wasn’t particularly violent, nobody said anything. It was barely a blip in Western media.
It’s not right. It’s not fair. There is no fairness in the world. :(((
How about we recognize Northern Ireland at the same time? You know, like IRA wanted?
I’m pretty sure they are doing this just to get the government to stumble, not because they truly and deeply care about Palestine. Why else would they be pressing on this issue just now that the government is tearing itself apart for their different views on Israel.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s good that they are pressing on the issue, but the timing is just oddly convenient.
Would it prevent Israel from taking over Gaza? Who or who would lead a Palestinian state? Would other countries recognize the Palestinian Authority?
